MADISON, N.J. - The Lafayette fencing team opened its 2024-25 campaign at the Rangers Fall Invitational at Drew University's Simon Forum on Sunday.
The men completed the event with a 5-2 record, defeating Wheaton 24-3, LIU 15-12, Wagner 15-12, Cornell 16-11 and Drew 19-8, while falling to Stevens 17-10 and NJIT 17-10. Out of 189 bouts, the men were victorious in 108, with the epee squad leading the way with a 42-18 record. The foil and sabre squads went 36-30 and 30-33, respectively.
The women compiled a 1-6 record on the day, with a win over Wheaton 24-3 and losses to Stevens 16-11, NJIT 22-5, LIU 14-13, Wagner 16-11, Cornell 24-3 and Drew 17-10. With a total of 189 bouts fenced, the women won 78, with the foil squad recording a 32-31 record. The foil and sabre finished the event with a 27-36 record and a 19-44 tally, respectively.
The Leopard men were led with a stellar performance by senior epee
Antoine Mannes, who won 19 bouts and only dropped two against NJIT. Mannes went undefeated against Stevens, Wheaton, Cornell, Drew, Wagner and LIU. Senior foil
Benito Hergert won 16 bouts, while freshman sabre
Jordan Ginsberg tallied 15 wins. Senior foil

Tyler Morse earned 14 victories each. Freshman sabre

Ryan Leibowitz each had nine wins, while sophomore sabre
Sam Gilpin and senior foil
Chris Davis ended the event with six wins.
The Lafayette women were led by freshman foil
Zoe Lenz, with 15 wins, followed by senior epee
Zoe O'Connor and freshman epee
Hilla Weatherill, with 12 victories each. Junior sabre
Allison Ramsay won nine bouts, senior foil
Anna Silver and junior epee
Emily Wells both earned eight wins, senior sabre
Brooke Lippe had seven wins, while freshmen foil
Nina Qiu and sophomore sabre
Makenna McCall had four and three wins, respectively.
The Maroon and White continue their season on Sunday, traveling to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for the Vassar Invite.
