Lafayette Travels to Wofford for a Weekend Series

First game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start on Friday

The Matchup
Lafayette travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford. The series started in 2007, with the last meeting of the two squads in 2022, where the Terriers defeated the Leopards, 19-1.

Preseason Honors
Junior Michael Zarrillo was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. Last year, the 2023 First-Team All-Patriot League selection batted a team-best .280, along with clubbing 10 home runs. Freshman Tristan Helmick was selected as the Preseason Patriot League Rookie of the Year by Perfect Game and D1BASEBALL. The Fort Washington, Pa. native comes to Lafayette from La Salle College High School, where he recorded a 6-1 record as a senior in 48.1 innings pitched, along with a 2.30 ERA.

The Leopards
Lafayette is coming off of a three-game series at Delaware. The Leopards won the second game of the series on March 2, defeating Delaware, 4-2. Lafayette was led by junior Joe Skapinetz, who pitched 5.2 nearly perfect innings, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out 10, retiring 16 of the 19 batters that he faced, and collecting his first win of the season. The effort by Skapinetz earned him Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors. On offense, junior Ben Petrone continued to swing a hot bat, improving his average to .324 and clubbing his third home run of the season in Newark.

The Opponent
Wofford enters this weekend's series with a 9-2 record. Last time out, the Terriers played Fordham in the final game of a four-game weekend series, defeating the Rams, 13-2. In that game, Wofford blasted two home runs and took a 13-0 lead before Fordham scored two runs in the eighth. Marshall Toole leads the Terriers in almost every offensive statistical category. The junior holds a .463 batting average, along with two home runs and 13 RBIs. On the mound, Wofford is paced by Braden Hofmeyer. The Chino Hills, Calif. native has a 2-0 record, with a 0.53 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 17.0 innings pitched.
