PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lafayette fencing team returned from winter break to participate in the Penn Invite hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday at Micahnik Fencing Center.
The Leopards competed in matches against NJIT, Duke, Penn, Princeton, Penn State and Temple.
The women were paced by freshman epee
Hilla Wetherill, who won seven bouts. Freshman foil
Zoe Lenz recorded five wins, while a trio of Leopards had three wins each: junior sabre
Allison Ramsay, senior epee
Zoe O'Connor and senior sabre
Brooke Lippe. Junior epee
Emily Wells had two wins and senior foil
Anna Silver and sophomore sabre
Makenna McCall both won one bout.
The men were led by junior epee
Tyler Morse, who ended the day winning eight bouts. Senior foil
Chris Davis and senior epee
Antoine Mannes recorded seven and six wins, respectively. Senior foil
Benito Hergert and freshman sabreÂ
Ryan Leibowitz both had five victories. Senior foil
Amir Whitehead had four wins, while freshman sabre
Nikita Kogan and freshman sabre
Jordan Ginsberg both had four wins. Sophomore sabre
Sam Gilpin recorded one victory.
The Lafayette fencing team continues its season Feb. 2, traveling to Baltimore, Md. for the MACFA A vs C.
