FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. - Lafayette moved into a tie for first place on Sunday at the Fripp Island Invitational, hosted by South Carolina Upstate. The Leopards (+5) carded an five-over-par 289 in the second round following up their round one score of 284. With 18 holes left to play, the Maroon and White are knotted up with Charleston Southern for team honors in the nine-team field.
Travis Robertson paced Lafayette on day two of the invitational, shooting a 70 at the par-71, 6,511-yard Ocean Creek Golf Club. The sophomore recorded three birdies and an eagle to rise 15 spots into a tie for sixth.
Harry Dessel repeated his Saturday round, carding a one-over-par 72. Dessel (+2) jumped up to 12th.
Winston Kelenc-Blank (66-79) rests in 16th after shooting nine-over-par.
Viktor Kofod-Olsen followed up his round one score of 73 with another two-over-par, and is tied for 20th. Freshman
Liam Brandt finished in 41st after carding rounds of 79 and 74.
Representing Lafayette as individuals are
Chris Vahey,
Reed Theiss and
Hudson Pace. Vahey (71-74) lands just outside the top 15, in a tie for 16th. Theiss shot a one-over-par 72 after Saturday's 76 to conclude Sunday in 29th. Pace rests t-41 after turning in a 75.
Trailing three strokes behind the Leopards and Charleston Southern is Gardner-Webb. North Carolina A&T's Javier Morgado (-3) leads the 57-player field after carding a 69. He claims a one-stroke advantage over Presbyterian's Jeep Patrick and Central Michigan's Keith Hunter.
Lafayette closes out the tournament on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
