GLADSTONE, N.J. - The Leopards took on rival Lehigh at the annual Presidents Cup at Hamilton Farm Golf Club on Tuesday, with the event resulting in a 10-10 tie. By virtue of the tie, the Mountain Hawks retained the Presidents Cup in the match-play event.
The morning started with the two rivals participating in a better ball event. Lehigh jumped ahead early, notching a 4-1 lead. The Maroon and White got on the board when senior
Michael Bell and freshman
Michael DiNapoli stole a 3-1 victory over Luke Block and Paulins Malgius.
The next event of the day was alternate shot, with Lafayette tallying a 4.5 of a possible five points. Bell and DiNapoli were all square with Block and Malgius, with each team receiving a half point. Sophomore
Winston Kelenc-Blank and freshman
Harrison Browne captured a 1-up victory over Charles Schrohe and Matt Quinn before
Harry Dessel and
Reed Theiss secured
a 3-1 final over Jahan Bains and Aidan Oehrle.
Lehigh dropped the final two pairings of the morning, as
Travis Robertson and
Hudson Pace won a 2-1 decision over Noan Zyung and Aidan LeBlanc, while
Sean Saw and
Quint Dingledine collected a 3-2 victory over Will Caronolli and Jake Roth.
As the morning wrapped up, the Leopards entered the afternoon with a 5.5 - 4.5 lead over Lehigh.
The third and final event of the Presidents Cup was individual matches. Lafayette was unable to catch the Mountain Hawks, as Lehigh tallied six points to claim the win. Bell and Theiss won 2-1 and 3-2, respectively. Three straight all-squares had things knotted up entering the last matchup. Dingledine was able to secure a 1-up victory before LeBlanc collected a 7-6 final to help Lehigh retain the Presidents Cup.
The Leopards will compete for a final time this spring at the Patriot League Championship, hosted by Bucknell, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
