HAMPDEN, Mass. – The Lafayette Men's Golf team braved the coastal nor'easter to compete in day one of the Connecticut Cup, hosted by Connecticut. Chris Vahey netted an impressive score of two-over-par (74) for the day. He currently sits in an 11-way tie for 11th place. He finished the round strong, with birdies on the 16th and 18th holes.
Junior Reed Theiss finished the front nine one-under-par, with a birdie on the fourth hole, and a 79 overall. Viktor Kofod-Olsen also had a steady day, with three birdies. The sophomore landed t-25 following a four-over-par 76Â Liam Brandt, representing the Leopards as an individual, scored a 78 in the opening round, with birdies on the first and fourth holes.Â
The Leopards finished day one in the middle of the pack tied with Siena for 8th place, shooting +22 overall.Â
Rhode Island leads the contest by one stroke over Providence, Bryant and Fairfield, who all sit in a three-way tie for second. The Rams shot six-over-par in the opening round. Tony Liu from Rhode Island sits atop the leaderboard at four-under-par.Â
The Leopards return to Greathorse Golf Club tomorrow for day two of the three-day tournament.Â
