LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team opened its season Saturday at the Bison Opener hosted by Bucknell. Athletes from both the men's and the women's teams secured top-three finishes in several events.Â
For the women, senior Grace O'Mara had an impressive weekend, finishing in the top three in two different events. O'Mara took home second in the women's weight throw (50' 1.25"), and third place in the women's shot put (40' 5"). Sophomore Julia Greeley finished in third place in the pole vault, vaulting 13'3.5".
In the one-mile run, junior Lily Dineen managed a fourth-place finish with a time of 5:32.05. Classmate Sara Tippin was less than a second behind Dineen for a fifth-place finish (5:32.79). Freshman Bridget Cote secured a fourth-place finish in the 500 meter (1:23.72), and classmate Katherine Pappas crossed the finish line right behind her in fifth place (1:24.08).Â
For the men, sophomore Jack Lynett took home the Leopards' first overall victory of the indoor season in the pole vault, with a mark of 4.30 meters. Freshman Roman Conca placed sixth in the 60-meter sprint during his first career meet, posting a time of 7.06. Conca also placed eighth in the 200m (23.08).Â
The men's 4x400-meter relay team secured a fifth-place finish. The foursome of Roman Conca, sophomore C.J. Romine, freshman Theodore Robertson and sophomore Sohan De Silva ran a time of 3:35.29. In the men's triple jump, sophomore Quinn Curtain placed fifth overall jumping 12.92 meters.
The Leopards will have some time off before they continue competition at the Spartan Invite in Staten Island, N.Y. on Jan. 13.
