EASTON, Pa. – With the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships set to kick off this weekend, we caught up with head coach,
Michele Curcio, to get an idea of what to expect.
"On the men's side, we are going to look for
Jordan Anderson and
Austin Barry to have big meets," said Curcio.
Anderson is currently ranked third in the long jump and fifth in the 60 meter dash on the PL performance list this season, so Curcio believes he will be a big source of the teams success this weekend.
Barry is coming off some outstanding distance races this winter, as he broke the 5,000 meter indoor school record and is second all time in school history in the 3,000 meter run. He is another runner Curcio believes is set to have a big weekend. She also believes that
Bobby Oehrlein, who is also having a strong season, will be in the running in the 5,000 meter run.
Another name mentioned by Curcio is
Oscar Jopp, as she says the team is looking for him to pick up some points in the heptathlon. He scored back in the 2019 championship, and looks to be in the Top 4-5 mix come this weekend.
"Our men's team has a mixture of strong seniors such as Anderson, Barry, Jopp,
Ryan Murphy, and
Jesse Schmeizer, plus a group of younger athletes getting their first taste of the indoor championships," says Curcio.
Curcio is also looking for the 4x800 meter relay and the distance medley relay to pick up some big points this weekend.
"On the women's side,
Autumn Sands will lead the way," says Curcio. Sands placed 10
th at the 2021 Cross Country Championships and has had a record breaking indoor season, breaking records in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter run. She is currently seeded fifth in the 5,000 meter run, and is somebody the team is counting on to score points.
Curcio also mentions
Juliette Delmotte in the long and triple jump and
Grace O'Mara in the shot put and 20lb weight as others she believes will be in the mix to score points this weekend. Both have produced Lafayette All Top 10 performances this winter.
The last name Curcio mentioned was
Cassandra Wilk, as Curcio expects her to be in the scoring mix in the finals of the mile.
The PL Championships kick off tomorrow and conclude on Sunday.
