Track & Field Continues Indoor Season at Spartan Invitational

Oehrlein and Greeley secure first-place finishes

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Lafayette Track and Field team traveled to Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility in Staten Island, N.Y. for the Spartan Invitational on Friday evening. The men's and women's teams had several top-three finishes during a strong performance by both squads.

For the men, senior Bobby Oehrlein took home first place in the mile run, breaking his personal record with a time of 4:14.94. Oehrlein moved into sixth place on the all-time list with his run. Sophomore Jack Lynett finished tied for first place in the pole vault after vaulting 14' 2". Freshman Roman Conca secured a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7:03), paired with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.45).

In the 800-meter run, freshman Quinn Worrell managed a third-place finish, posting a time of 1:55.24. Sophomore C.J. Romine took home fifth place in the 1000-meter run (2:36.67), and senior Fischer Biggs placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 42' 3.5". The foursome of Conca, sophomore Ryan Moore, freshman John Paul Pfisterer and classmate Zach Barban managed a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:30.60).

On the women's side of things, sophomore Julia Greeley secured a first-place finish in the pole vault, posting a score of 11' 5.75". The freshmen for the Lafayette women were impressive during the Spartan Invite. Newcomer Maeve Waldron finished in second place for the 400-meter run (59.80) and classmate Elizabeth Borah set a new personal best in the mile, giving her a third-place finish (5:08.83). Borah also moves into the all-time list at tenth after her performance on Monday afternoon.

Freshman Ashleigh Lustgarten also set a new personal best in the 3000-meter run, clocking a time of 10:44.15 to finish fourth. Junior Nava Chevan took home second place in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:19.59. In the 4x400-meter relay, freshman Alexa LaSasso, Katherine Pappas, Waldron, and Angel Awono finished in fifth place with a time of 4:10.13.

The Leopards will be back at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Jan. 20 to compete in The New York City Gotham Cup.
