EDITOR'S NOTE: In just two full seasons on College Hill, junior power forward Mike Farrell has turned in himself into the Leopards' most consistent player. Farrell, an American Studies major, has agreed to provide www.goleopards.com with a weekly journal entry, talking about his life as a student-athlete. Farrell came to Lafayette from DeLand, Fla. where he attended Father Lopez High School. He is the first non-senior team captain since 1997-98.Â
After a tough week of basketball, we will be ready to start up again on Friday night. The past few games have been extremely tough. The Holy Cross game was as physical a game as I have ever played in, and unfortunately we just couldn't hold on to the lead. The Penn game was another tough challenge for us. We knew they had come in winning their past two games by almost 40 points apiece. We got down big early but showed the same type of determination we have all year and nearly staged the comeback.
But now it is an even bigger week coming up for the Leopards. A couple of road games against a couple of tough teams. We have a nice little trip up to Bethlehem to face rival Lehigh for a late-night contest at 9 p.m. As a player I like having the game at this time, because this is when I will be most awake. We are a group of night owls - so you can bet that we will be primed at that hour.

The game will be a nice reunion of Florida players. Matt Crawford played at Vero Beach High School, a big 6A school. I remember working a camp with one of his assistant coaches the summer before I came to Lafayette. He told me that he thought Crawford had signed up to become a Leopard. The game should be a great one; they are strong both inside and out - and after that the schedule doesn't get any easier.
Then it is off to Bucknell to finish off the last day before the new semester starts up. It will be our first opportunity to play in their new gym. This is always an interesting game for me. My choice of schools came down between Lafayette and Bucknell, so all of their players and coaches know me very well. Both games are huge for us; we need wins in both to get back on track.
After that it will be nice to have a little break off from the games to get used to the college thing again. Not sure if I'm ready for classes to start up again - don't get me wrong, I'm going to love seeing everybody come back to campus, but I gotta say that having a little time off from classes has been great. And, of course, the Super Bowl is coming. It's going to be a great game, that's all I'm going to say. No predictions for you. All I'm rooting for is a good game.
Peace
