Leopards Continue Season At Lafayette Tri Meet

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team continued their season today at the Lafayette Tri Meet. The women finished third overall with 67 points, while the men also finished third with 61 overall points.

On the women's side, Rachel Hurley lead the way with a strong performance, winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a final time of 11:26.92. Her time was nine seconds faster than the second place finisher, and scored seven points in the event.

Also scoring in the event was Cassandra Wilk, finishing fifth overall in a time of 12:08.19 to score another two points.

Olivia Barney had another big meet for Leopards as well. In the hammer throw, her toss of 165' 1" was good enough for second place in the event, and scored five points in the event. Also scoring in the event was Meredith McGee, with a fifth place throw of 147' 11" to score another two points in the event.

The shot put was also a strong event for the Leopards, as they took home fourth and fifth place in the event. Leading the way was Grace O'Mara (38' 9") in fourth place and McGee (38' 03/4") in fifth to score a combined five points in the event. 

Both Barney and O'Mara came back later to also factor into the scoring in the discus. Barney finished fourth overall with a toss of 133' 6" to score another three points to her meet total, while O'Mara finished seventh with mark of 127' 4" for another two points.

Julia Knowles factored into the scoring in the meet as well, with a third place finish in the pole vault with a top mark of 9' 53/4". This finish from Knowles scored four points in the event. 

Continuing in the jumps department, Katie Ullmann also came home with a third place finish in the high jump, with a height of 5' 3". This mark scored another four points in the event.

The 1,500 meter run also produced some strong performances for the Leopards, with two women finishing top six in the event. Leading the way was Autumn Sands with a third place finish in a time of 4:48.65 to score four points in the event. Behind Sands was Lizzie Harmon, finishing sixth overall in a time of 4:50.99 to score another three points.

Katie Riley also factored into the scoring, finishing seventh overall in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:24.44 to score four points in the event. Also scoring was Alex Avery, finishing 11th overall in a time of 2:29.45 for another two points in the event.

Another distance event that produced some great finishes for Lafayette was in the 5,000 meter run. Leading the way was Liv Palma, finishing second overall in a time of 18:26.34 to score five points in the event. Behind Palma was Emma Lorey, finishing fourth in a time of 19:29.60 to score another three points.

Moving into the sprints department, Katie Ellmaker finished seventh overall in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:04.76 to score another two points on the day.

Closing out the action on the women's side was the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Avery, Emily Becker, Ellmaker, and Julia Eustace, finishing fourth overall in a time of 4:17.96 to score the final five points on the day.

On the men's side, the Leopards won one event on the day. The first win came from James Dailey, finishing first in the javelin with a toss of 149' 3". This mark was over 16 feet further than the second place finisher and scored seven points in the event.

Also scoring in the javelin was Andrew Bowsher, finishing third with a mark of 94' 1" to score another four points on the day.

Moving into the hammer throw, the Leopards scored another five points in the event. Leading the way was Devin Rosmarin, finishing fifth overall with a throw of 152' 8". Behind Rosmarin was Andrew Swiniarski in sixth place with a mark of 146' 7".

In the shot put, Fischer Biggs lead the way for Lafayette, finishing fifth with a throw of 40' 111/2" to score three points. Also scoring in the event was Swiniarski, finishing eighth with a throw of 34' 9" to score one point.

Closing out the scoring in the throwing events was Biggs and Swiniarski. Biggs finished fifth overall with a mark of 124' 11" to score two points, while Swiniarksi finished sixth with a mark of 111' 11" to score one point.

In the pole vault, Mark Sabin continued on his strong showing this season, finishing second overall with a top vault of 13' 81/2" to score five points in the event.

The 3,000 meter steeplechase also was another successful event for Lafayette, as they finished with two finishers in the top three. Leading the way in second place was Austin Barry, finishing in a time of 9:24.80 to score five points in the event. Behind Barry was Michael Neeson, finishing third in a time of 9:35.77 for another four points.

Ryan Branch and Bobby Oehrlein have been two of the most dependable runners for Lafayette this season, and today was no different for them in the 1,500 meter run. Branch finished second overall in a time of 4:01.76 to score five points in the event. Behind Branch was Oehrlein, finishing fourth in a time of 4:03.29 for another three points.

In the 800 meter run, Ryan Murphy lead the way for Lafayette, finishing fourth in a time of 2:00.10 to score four points in the event. Also scoring in the event was Jesse Schmeizer, finishing sixth overall in a time of 2:01.02 to score another three points.

In the sprints department, Danny Hullihan scored two points in the 400 meter dash with a fifth place finish in a time of 56.01.

Closing out the action on the men's side was the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Willie Marina, Murphy, Sean Hamilton, and Andrew Massaro, finishing fifth overall in a time of 3:39.57 to score the final four points on the day.
