WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The women's track and field team captured first place while the men reeled in fifth at the Bill Butler Invitational at West Chester University on Friday and Saturday.
In the field for the women, senior Erin O'Leary captured the victory in the hammer throw with a 164' 8" effort while junior Zoe Krumwiede followed right behind in second (135' 7.25"). Freshman Anna Cacciacarne reeled in fourth in the shot put (35' 8.75") and classmate Kristin DeBolt took home fourth in the discus (117' 9.75") and fifth in the hammer throw (125' 5.5").
On the men's side, sophomore Jared Googel garnered first in the hammer throw, throwing 164' 10". Freshman Javin Petry snagged second in the hammer throw (159' 9.25") while sophomore Jack Paradis collected fifth (136' 3.75"). Sophomore Niko Williams collected second in the discus throw with a 147' 0.5" effort followed by freshman Adrian Pirog in fifth (125' 8.25"). Sophomore Ivan Tejada and junior Liam Downey finished third (45' 8.75") and fourth (43' 10.75") in the shot put, respectively. Paradis earned fifth in the shot put, putting 42' 8.5".
Freshman Kaseme Leckie jumped 5' 9" in high jump for fourth.
Running for the women, freshman Anya Kazemi captured the victory in the 1500 meters with a final time of 5:02.01. Senior Maura Timoney earned second in the 1500 meters (5:04.10) while junior Lizzie Hurshman followed behind in fifth (5:07.88). Freshman Eleni Smith garnered second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:30.92.
In the sprints, freshman Iyun Franklin-Ayeni enjoyed a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.97. Sophomore Madeline Convy secured second in the 200 meters, finishing in 27.33. Freshmen Lily Jenkins and Lilly Bradfield placed second (1:01.44) and fourth (1:02.64) in the 400 meters, respectively. Sophomore Kayla Brose finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:16.45.
Junior Julianne Gallo achieved third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.94. Gallo also enjoyed a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.41. Freshman MaryEllen Steiner earned fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 17.68.
The Maroon and White competed in day one of the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday and will wrap up day two on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
