WORCESTER, Mass. – Lafayette track and field had a strong first day at the Patriot League Championships at Hart Track hosted by Holy Cross on Friday. The Leopards broke a school record, churned out seven Lafayette all-time top 10 performances, scored in six events and had four finalists.
Running for the women, senior Nava Chevan broke her own Lafayette school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.83, 0.06 seconds faster than her previous time. Chevan snagged second place and qualified for finals. Junior Alexa LaSasso collected 11th in the 800 meters with a final time of 2:10.36, securing No. 2 all-time at Lafayette.
Sophomore Ida Moczerniuk ran 11.82 in the 100 meters for third place, qualifying for finals. Junior Maeve Waldron earned No. 6 all-time in the 200 meters with a time of 25.06, finishing 13th.
The team of junior Elena Malone, freshman Jamie Gorman, senior Chelsey Cochrane and LaSasso reeled in No. 7 all-time in the 4x800-meter relay with their time of 9:08.82. The women enjoyed a sixth-place finish, adding points for the Leopards.
On the men's side, junior Titan Casey secured No. 7 all-time in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.14. Casey achieved eighth, qualifying for finals.
Sophomore John Liedtka sprinted 14.66 in the 110-meter hurdles for sixth and a spot in finals.
The team of Casey, senior A.J. Sanford, freshman Alec Miner and junior Quinn Worrell scored for the Maroon and White in the 4x800 relay. The men ended in fifth with a time of 7:39.25.
In the field for the women, senior Erin O'Leary garnered fifth in the hammer throw with a 167' 2" effort, adding points to the board.
Sophomore Bridget O'Mara stays at No. 4 all-time with her performance of 11' 8.5" in the pole vault, taking home 13th.
For the men, junior Benjamin Hill captured No. 4 all-time in the pole vault after a 15' 9.25" effort. Hill's vault earned points for the team and a fourth-place finish. Also bringing in points for the Leopards, senior Jack Lynett reeled in eighth in the pole vault with a 15' 3.5" finish.
Freshman Javin Petry threw 171' 1" in the hammer throw for eighth.
The Maroon and White will wrap up the Patriot League Championships on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.
