WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Lafayette track and field team continued their season today at day two of the Patriot League Championships. At the end the final session today, the women finished eighth with 19 points, while the men also finished eighth with 10.5 points.
Kicking off the scoring action for the women on day two was
Rachel Hurley, finishing sixth in the steeplechase in a final time of 11:12.76. This time scored three points in the event. This finish from Hurley is the fourth fastest in school history in the event.
Also entering the scoring sheet was the 4x400 meter relay team, finishing eighth in a final time of 4:13.26. Leading the way was
Katie Riley,
Lizzie Harmon,
Emily Becker, and
Alex Avery, helping to score another point to the Lafayette total.
Just missing scoring in the 5,000 meter run with strong performances were
Ainsley Jacobs and
Autumn Sands. Jacobs finished ninth in a time of 17:00.39, while Sands finished 11th in a time of 17:11.18. The time from Jacobs breaks her own school record that she set earlier this season by three seconds. Sands' finish is also a new personal best, and lands her third all time in school history.
Three more women in the 5,000 meter also entered the Lafayette top 10 all time. The first isÂ
Dannah Javens, finishing 15th in a time of 17:25.77. Her finishing is good for sixth all time in school history. After Javens,
Becky Hartman (19th, 17:30.35), and
Gabi Galletta (20th, 17:31.59) finishes are good for eighth and ninth all time in school history.Â
On the men's side,
Ryan Branch opened up the scoring on day two, finishing fourth overall in the 5,000 meter run in a final time of 14:30.18. This finish helped score five points in the event. This time from Branch breaks the Lafayette school record set by Jeff Parker back in 1984 by five seconds. This previous record was one of Lafayette's longest standing records.
Isaiah Moore also factored into the scoring as well, finishing tied for eighth place in the high jump with a mark of 6'0
3/4". This mark helped score 0.5 points for the Lafayette men total.
