STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Leopard track and field team began the new year on Friday at the Spartan Invite hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Running for the women, senior Nava Chevan broke a 19-year old school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.45, capturing first place. Junior Elena Malone garnered first in the 500 meters, finishing in 1:17.23 and securing No. 10 all-time at Lafayette. Classmate Alexa LaSasso earned No. 3 all-time in the 800 meters with her second-place finish in 2:12.47.Â
Sophomore Ida Moczerniuk took home second in the 200 meters (25.13) and freshman Jamie Gorman finished fifth in the 800 meters (2:21.48). Junior Maeve Waldron and senior Chelsey Cochrane each placed seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.93) and the mile (5:17.09), respectively, while junior Katherine Pappas reeled in eighth in the 500 meters (1:19.30).
The team of Chevan, LaSasso, Malone and Pappas secured first place in the 4x400-meter relay with a final time of 3:53.82.
For the men, junior Titan Casey won the 800 meters with a final time of 1:56.61. Classmate Quinn Worrell took home second in the 1000 meters (2:30.83) and sophomore John Liedtka finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.47). Sophomore Alexander Caba earned No. 3 all-time in the 200 meters with a time of 21.95, finishing fourth.Â
Juniors Roman Conca and Liam Sawian collected eighth and ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.04) and 60-meter hurdles (8.72), respectively.Â
In the field events for the women, senior Julia Greeley took first in the pole vault, vaulting 11' 11.75". Sophomore Bridget O'Mara and junior Isabella Allen followed in third (11') and fifth (10' 6"). Sophomore Abbey Nichols placed ninth in the long jump with an effort of 16' 5.25".
Senior Erin O'Leary threw 44' 11" in the weight throw for an eighth-place finish.
For the men, sophomore Ivan Tejada tied for No. 9 all-time in the shot put with 50' 7.50", earning second. Sophomore Niko Williams and junior Liam Downey collected sixth (44' 7.75") and eighth (44' 1.25") in shot put, respectively.
Freshman Jack Larson garnered first in the pole vault, vaulting 15' 7.75" and securing No. 3 all-time. Senior Jack Lynett placed fifth in the pole vault (14' 8") while sophomore Elliott Godin and junior Benjamin Hill finished ninth (14' 2") and 10th (13' 8.25"), respectively.
Freshman Kaseme Leckie earned fourth in the high jump with 6' 4".
The Maroon and White will next compete at the Gotham Cup at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex and day one of the Wesley Brown Invitational at Navy on Jan. 17.
