McClosky Captures Victory at Penn Relays

Leopards break two records and add four new all-time performances

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Lafayette track and field competed at Penn Relays on Thursday through Saturday and the Covert Classic at Lehigh on Friday and Saturday. The Leopards took home 10 total event wins, four Lafayette All-Time Top 10 performances and two school records.

At the Penn Relays, senior Bobby McClosky claimed the victory in the college section of the men's javelin, finishing with a final throw of 213' 1". 

Sophomore Kendall Collier secured the school record in the 5000 meters (16:47.41), surpassing Autumn Sands' 16:49.06 from 2022. Collier collected 49th overall.

The team of seniors Titan Casey and Quinn Worrell and freshmen Hunter Parsons and Tegan Kovacs claimed the school record in the 4x800-meter relay with their time of 7:34.68 for seventh place. The Leopard men eclipsed the record of 7:35.09 from 1996. The men's 4x400-meter relay made up of seniors Roman Conca and J.P. Pfisterer, junior Alexander Caba and freshman Baker Pott snagged No. 7 all-time with a time of 3:15.15, placing 16th.

At the Covert Classic, freshman Brooklyn Genduso earned No. 2 all-time in the pole vault, vaulting 12' 3.5" for second. Classmate Sophia Agner garnered second in the high jump (5' 1") while sophomore Leah Rudolph finished third in the long jump (16' 7.25").

Juniors Marin Rosser and Maddie Still went 1-2 in the women's javelin, with Rosser capturing the victory with a 130' 8" toss followed by Still in second (129' 1"). Freshmen Ava Reese and Kennedy Miller enjoyed second (41' 10") and third (40' 9.5") place in the shot put, respectively.

Running for the women, senior Carolina McCloskey reeled in the victory in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:35.92). Freshman Lexi Powers achieved second in the 3000-meter steeple with a time of 11:55.49. Sophomore Alivia Bear claimed first in the 5000 meters, crossing the finish line at 18:36.12. Sophomore Anya Kazemi finished second in the 1500 (4:44.40).

Sophomore Lily Jenkins earned second in the 100 meters with a final time of 13.20 followed by classmate Cate Guilfoyle in third (13.73).

In the field for the men, senior Benjamin Hill secured No. 3 all-time in the pole vault, vaulting 16' 6.75" for second. Sophomore Jack Larson collected the victory in the pole vault (16' 6.75") while classmate Kaseme Leckie snagged the win in the high jump (6' 1.25").

Junior Ivan Tejada collected No. 10 all-time in the shot put with his 50' 10.25" put, finishing second overall. Sophomore Javin Petry reeled in first-place in the hammer throw with a 182' even throw. Junior Niko Williams achieved third in the javelin (187' 1").

Sophomore hurdler John Liedtka claimed the victory in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line at 14.88. Freshman Justice Larkin snagged third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.40). Senior Zachary Barban earned first in the 400 meters with a time of 50.00. Sophomore Alec Miner enjoyed the win in the 1500 meters, finishing in 3:57.85.

The Maroon and White will host Lehigh for the second Lehigh Dual of the season at Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex on May 2.
