Beth Mowins '89 earned her degree in English after completing an illustrious career on the hardwood for the Leopards. The four-year letterwinner was a standout for a women's basketball program that claimed East Coast Conference (ECC) tournament championship game appearances in each of Mowins' four seasons. She led the Leopards to the ECC title in 1986-87 in a thrilling 60-58 win over archrival Lehigh. A two-year team captain under head coach Pat Fisher, Mowins still holds the Lafayette single-season and career assist records. In the 1986-87 season, she dished out 200 assists, while amassing 715 in her career. Mowins holds the top three spots on the single-season record list, recording 176 assists in her senior year and 148 as a rookie in 1985-86. She also tops the lists for games started in a career (115) and ranks second in career steals with 309. The Syracuse, N.Y. native ranks seventh on Lafayette's all-time scoring list with 1,159 career points. She led the Leopards in scoring her senior season, averaging 14.6 points per game.
After graduation, Mowins embarked on a career in broadcasting and called college basketball games for Penn State, the Big East and the ACC. Mowins, who has spent more than a decade in the profession, is calling college football action in the Western Athletic Conference for ESPNU this fall. She now resides in Tampa, Fla.
