David B. Baird '59 utilized his running and jumping abilities to leave his mark on the Lafayette track & field program. The captain of the team, Baird established a new school record in the 220-yard low hurdles his junior season. He also claimed a Middle Atlantic Conference Championship in low hurdles, winning all but one event during his final season. When it came to the 120-yard high hurdles, Baird went undefeated his senior year and tied the school record. In the Penn Relays, he finished fourth among the top 400-meter hurdlers in the nation in an event won by eventual two-time Olympic Champion Glen Davis. He also competed on the mile relay team that placed fifth in the Penn Relays his junior year. Baird's mark of 24.8 seconds in the 220 hurdles still sits atop the Leopard records.
