McLaughlin was a four-time All-Patriot League selection, one of just 20 student-athletes to earn that distinction in Patriot League history. He was later named to the Patriot League 15th and 25th Anniversary Football Teams.

A native of New Cumberland, Pa., McLaughlin graduated as the school record holder in kick scoring with 255 points and remains second all-time in the Patriot League in that category. He still holds Lafayette records for field goals in a career (41) and ranks second for career PATs (46). He also finished fifth in conference kicking points per game after leading the Patriot League in kick scoring in 1992 and 1993.

A kicker on two Patriot League championship football teams (1992, 1994), he left College Hill with a four-year conference record of 16-3-1, including 5-0 marks in the championship seasons. Like Dicker, he was selected as the winner of the Class of 1913 Trophy.

McLaughlin graduated with a degree in Chemistry before enrolling in medical school at Drexel University from 1995-99. He undertook his residency at Emory University School of Medicine in emergency medicine and is currently an emergency medicine physician at Jefferson Health - Abington.
